The gum tree that inspired this piece stands proudly right outside my studio window.  It is the first thing I see when I’m taking a break at my easel.  Over time I began taking a series of photos which chronicled the changes, from branches laden with gum nuts, to early budding flowers and then busting with gorgeous flowers and manic bees.  

One particular day while taking these photographs, the light falling across the gum flowers was soft and the magical feeling was complete when quietly the butterfly in the painting made its home in the haze of flowers.
